The plan is to carry out a social/community improvement project within a school environment that will aim to change the way we think about and use disposable products on a day to day basis.
I aim to create a plan for a plastic free week in which there will be activities and challenges for people to reduce their plastic waste or alter their throw away lifestyles.
To achieve this I will need to talk to senior members of staff in order to plan when this week can take place and if I would be able to create a student participation group.
As of now I have four main aims for my project:
- plan and carry out a week of activities within school to encourage everyone to reduce their single use plastic consumption
- involve younger students in raising awareness of the impact of a disposable lifestyle.
- make my project sustainable by creating an enrichment program plan for future year 12's to replicate this project in the future
- make a simple informative video/leaflet/poster which will advise people on simple steps to reduce their waste at home and in school
This project is important to me as it is something that effects every process in our planet, something I'm interested in as a geography student. Our everyday actions have consequences and the society we live is conditioned to believe that a disposable lifestyle is a good lifestyle. I do not agree and therefore I want to challenge this societal ignorance by breaking the science and logic into an easily digestible format that younger students find easier to engage with.
