Meeting with site manager

10th January 2019

I had a meeting with the site manager of the school about possible ways to reduce the disposable plastic in sixth form and possibly the wider school. I managed to come to an agreement with her that the plastic use in the school is out of hand and unnecessary. I managed to get her to add recycling bins in the common room of the sixth form which was a small step. One issue I had was getting her to understand that although recycling is good, it isn't the answer. My project is focused on reducing plastic use so that we use alternatives or cut out use all together. One achievement was getting her to consider getting a dishwasher in the school kitchens so that instead of plastic boxes and cutlery we can use plates and metal cutlery. However, this is something they are planning for next year as changes this far in the school year would be hard to carry out so I wont be able to see this come into effect. Although getting my point across was difficult it was a success as the meeting made it clear that the school is willing to make changes to the way we use and dispose single use plastics.
